This is for beginners, like me, not the experts. You have been warned!

Short Answer :

I used the only resource available to me — Internet.

(Silly answer, I know!)

Long Answer:

When I started learning app development, I had no idea how to get started. Even the basic setup of Android Studio was a tough task for me.

Doing things on your own requires a lot of patience and Googling. Especially if you are learning a new language or in this case, learning about a whole new platform and IDE.

The basic thing that any beginner has to know is how to search for the resources, right resources, for learning.

It took me a lot of time and I had move from one tutorial to another until I found few websites, blogs to learn it from.

It might seem like a huge task to start Android development and it is, but if you give it time and take one step at a time, it gets easier. And that’s what I did.

I googled how to setup AS, googled about every little error I got while setting it up and just running the basic app for the first time.

It took a week or so. But I ran my first app and seeing the “Hello world” TextView on the phone, was nothing short of magic for me. The possibilities were countless. It felt amazing!

The next step was to find good tutorials. After googling so many things, I thought this would be easy. At first, it did seem easy. There were a lot of tutorials available all over the Internet. But as I started following along those tutorials, it seemed to me that there are still gaps in my knowledge. It still felt like most tutorials didn’t explain in detail about the basic stuff.

Even after following through, I wasn’t learning much. I still didn’t know what was happening behind the scenes. I kept googling and collecting resources whichever I found to be good.

After finding the right resources, it got a bit easier to create and code my app and I was finally able to do it.

It took time. It took effort. But it was worth it. :)

Here’s one of my most successful apps : Writing Prompts.
